Our Story

We stopped by Maplewood Meats looking for dinner inspiration and walked out with two beautiful prime New York strips. We kept the meal simple with grilled asparagus so the quality of the beef could really shine. Sometimes the best steakhouse dinner is the one you make at home with just a few great ingredients.

Quick Stats

  • Serves: 2

  • Prep: 10 min (plus 30 to 45 min to temper the steaks)

  • Cook: 10 min

  • Total: 45 min

  • Difficulty: 2 / 5

  • Cost: $$$

Ingredients

For the steak

  • 2 Prime New York Strip Steaks (Maplewood Meats)

  • South Chicago Packing Wagyu Beef Tallow Spray

  • Big Meat's #5 Seasoning

  • Dean Jacob's Garlic & Sea Salt Grinder

  • Lawry's Seasoned Salt

For the chipotle parmesan asparagus

  • 1 bunch organic asparagus (Gramma Eo's Organics)

  • Kosterina Green Goddess Olive Oil

  • Dean Jacob's Garlic & Sea Salt

  • Urban Accents Chipotle Parmesan Seasoning Blend

Instructions

  1. Prep the steaks. Take the steaks out of the fridge 30 to 45 minutes before cooking. Lightly coat all sides with the Wagyu beef tallow spray, then season generously with Big Meat's #5, Garlic & Sea Salt, and a light sprinkle of Lawry's. Let them rest while the grill preheats.

  2. Prep the asparagus. Wash and trim the woody ends. Drizzle with Kosterina Green Goddess Olive Oil and season with Garlic & Sea Salt and Urban Accents Chipotle Parmesan. Toss until evenly coated.

  3. Grill the steaks. Preheat the grill to 450F. Place the steaks over direct heat, cook 5 minutes on the first side, flip once, and cook another 4 to 5 minutes. Pull at 125F for medium-rare or 130F for medium. Rest 10 minutes.

  4. Grill the asparagus. After you flip the steaks, add the asparagus to the grill. Cook 7 to 9 minutes, turning every couple of minutes, until tender with light char.

  5. Slice and serve. Slice the steaks thinly against the grain and pour any cutting-board juices back over the slices. Serve alongside the grilled asparagus.
